Spring is here...and with it comes Housing Works' annual fundraising event Design on a Dime. We participate every year - Last year's theme was "A Chic Garden Shed." This year - Thomas Jefferson's library at Monticello.

Benefiting Housing Works, the largest community-based AIDS service organization in the United States, this event raised over $650,000 last year alone.

Created by my good friend James Huniford, of Huniford Design Studio, Design on a Dime invites decorators, design firms, shops, stylists, manufacturers and even your favorite magazines to set up a 10 foot by 12 foot room showcasing their wares, their ideas, and their sincere generosity!

The opening night cocktail reception is not to be missed - for the most fabulous finds!

Barbara Sallick, chair of this year’s Arthur Ross Awards jury, and Peter Pennoyer Chairman of the ICA&CA board of directors will preside over the ceremony.

As the last of the "Balanchine ballerinas" prepares to retire from the stage, this tribute will explore Darci Kistler's early life, great teachers, Balanchine's influence, how she has balanced a career and motherhood, and her continuation as a faculty member at The School of American Ballet.

The program will be followed by a seated luncheon.

Nature's Forger: Mrs. Mary Delany

Yale Center for British Art

In an era that often undervalued female artists, Mary Delany produced an astonishing body of work that was just one part of her long and accomplished life. Noticing a sheet of paper that was the same shade of red as the geraniums on her nightstand - so began her greatest acheivement, nearly 1,000 botanical paper collages.

The arresting work of Mary Delany will be on display at the Yale Center for British Art under the exhibit entitled MRS. DELANY & HER CIRCLE, through January 3rd, 2010.
