Shopping Atlanta

Shopping in Atlanta is always diverse, fruitful and enjoyable. Running into old friends, visiting new stores and, of course, having a relaxing lunch of Southern food.

Below are some of the places I recently visited. I hope you add them to your hit list next time you are there...

BUNGALOW CLASSIC owned by husband wife team, Courtney and Randy Tilinski is where you can finish off a room, do a little accessorizing, or what the heck, just start over and do the whole darn house...

At TOWNHOUSE, the decorating style of owner, Robert Brown, is the crisp, graphic story here. Bold, modern and classic all come together in three floors of rooms filled with art, accessories and furniture. Keep your eyes peeled as there are always decorating ideas to pick up everywhere.

A delightful visit and chat with owner of NOAH J. & Co., Chris Holt proved to be the last hit of the day. Mr. Holt is having some of his own designs made for the shop and they will soon prove to be staples for Atlanta decorators and visitors like me.  I bought an iron easel for presentations in my office and a slim, modern LED desk lamp.

There is nothing like an antique collective to get you going. The concept of multiple dealers under one roof is like an antique fair everday, a concept we all love. I always send home boxes from INTERIORS MARKETPLACE.

PIECES- slick, lacquered, woven and veneered, that's how I think of Pieces. If you are looking for a little bit, you came to the right place, for just a piece.

LUSH LIFE...and that it is indeed. I had not seen Dennis Moye manager of Lush Life in a long time, so first we had our "old home week" exchange and then I shopped. First, there were two jardinieres (Dennis's handiwork) on the counter filled with the most divine combination of plant material...headed to an installation. Second, I can't imagine a better place to buy fragrance. All of the best companies are represented here. Third, I found some beautiful amethyst glass vases and bowls, along with a malachite cube paperweight. Lastly, the plant material and pots at the entrance are a total set up for the "lush life" Theirs and could be yours.

What I could say about BOXWOODS will fill a page. I have seen it grow, expand almost take over the neighborhood. Accessories, some furniture, small antiques (I found beautiful creamware compotes) and an enthusiastic and helpful staff.  The part of Boxwoods that had me missing my own garden was their little nursery. So beautifully done, and with a path that had you winding through every inch. Beautiful plants, flowers, topiary and a floral design department bustling with activity. Boxwoods, right up my, garden path, of course.

Century Furniture and Charlotte are pleased to announce the launch of Charlotte’s furniture line for Century Icons, available in Century showrooms throughout the country. Creating this collection for Century Furniture was one of those opportunities to sit back, close eyes and imagine how we live NOW.

Today we communicate differently, we entertain differently, we even think differently about how we use our space than we did just a few years ago. So you may notice some unexpected details in this collection, and here's to hoping you do….

Through more than 20 years decorating, no matter the project – large or small – it always seems to come down to the same basic elements – livability, practicality and, of course, wanting it to look good.

The great thing about furniture is it moves! You can play with a floor plan, try different alternatives, and even have two or three plans for a room using the same pieces. Flexibility in decorating keeps it fresh – and always evolving.

Having worked with Century and their stellar team to put together Charlotte's first collection, they had the benefit of experience, and have made upholstered pieces that are luxurious, but welcoming and hospitable. The wood finishes are elegant, sophisticated and modern.

It’s a collection for how we live today.

The November 2013 House Beautiful Issue

c_icYQDoOeWx

In the fall of 2013, Charlotte guest edited the House Beautiful November issue.  In working with Newell Turner and House Beautiful Executive Editor Shax Riegler, she developed content ranging from product coverage to design features. The theme of the November entertaining issue was “The Arts of Living,” which included special sections on home fragrance, books, music, wine and more.

“Everyone loves the special, curated and one-of-a-kind feeling of a pop-up boutique and this series will have a similar effect—it is a fun, new way to collaborate with great talent, each with a unique personality and point of view, to give our readers something special and unexpected,” Riegler said.

Editor in Chief, Newell Turner noted that, “these issues will truly be collector’s editions, with the great American design that is House Beautiful’s hallmark and the distinctive imprint of the guest editor. We have some extraordinary projects in the works and we can’t wait to share them.”

“When Newell and Shax proposed this idea, I immediately and instinctively seized the theme of volupté—sensuality—for the home,” Moss said. “As designers, we go far beyond how rooms look and feel: we create atmosphere and that means creating beauty that affects all of our senses. I’m focusing on the arts of living, being surrounded by beauty, enveloped in fragrance, listening to good music, reading good books, enjoying good food and wine with friends. Basically, what we DO at home, how we LIVE.”
Additional “pop-up” guest editors will be announced in the coming months.
